Metabolomics Africa is turning vision into action through initiatives that combine education, research infrastructure, and global collaboration. Our projects are designed to inspire the next generation of African scientists, equip them with world-class tools, and position Africa as a leader in metabolomics and other -omics sciences.
The STEMxAfrica Project is a continent-wide initiative designed to ignite interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young Africans, with a focus on underrepresented regions and communities. The project serves as a pipeline to nurture the next generation of African innovators and scientific leaders by exposing secondary school students to emerging fields like metabolomics, genomics, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Through dynamic outreach campaigns, educational webinars, and on-site activations, STEMxAfrica is building a stronger foundation for scientific literacy across Africa.
Each STEMxAfrica activation is strategically designed to bring science closer to the students through relatable experiences and localized content. Students interact with experts, engage in practical demonstrations, and are introduced to Africa’s role in global science. By leveraging public-private partnerships and government collaboration, the project creates scalable opportunities for knowledge exchange, mentorship, and access to 21st-century science.
Ultimately, STEMxAfrica is more than a project—it is a movement. It seeks to close the global STEM divide by giving African students the confidence and tools to compete, collaborate, and lead on the world stage. The long-term goal is to integrate STEM culture into African education systems while creating visibility and excitement around African science.
STEMxClub is the student-focused, in-school extension of the STEMxAfrica Project, established to ensure sustained engagement with students after each community or school activation. The clubs are launched within secondary schools to provide a structured and continuous platform for students to learn, practice, and collaborate around STEM concepts in real-time. Each club is powered by trained STEM facilitators and guided by a flexible but robust curriculum designed to inspire creativity and critical thinking.
Through weekly or bi-weekly meetings, club members are introduced to real-world problems and encouraged to explore solutions using scientific thinking, digital tools, and collaborative teamwork. Projects range from simple experiments and coding challenges to discussions around pressing topics such as climate change, health sciences, and food systems. Clubs also serve as hubs where students can prepare for STEM competitions, connect with mentors, and build lifelong skills in leadership and innovation.
By establishing STEMxClubs across Africa, the initiative is planting seeds of scientific excellence in thousands of young minds. It is not only creating future-ready students, but also building a youth-led network of thinkers who will power Africa’s innovation ecosystem in the years to come.
Metabolomics Center of Excellence Project
Metabolomics Africa is spearheading the creation of the first Metabolomics Center of Excellence in Lagos, Nigeria – a pioneering facility that will serve as a hub for world-class research, training, and innovation in metabolomics and other -omics sciences. This flagship center, the first of many planned across the continent, will provide state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure, advanced instrumentation, and collaborative spaces for scientists, clinicians, and industry partners.
While the center is still in its development phase, it represents a bold, future-focused vision: to make Africa self-reliant in cutting-edge metabolomics research and to ensure that African scientists have access to the tools, expertise, and platforms necessary to address local and global challenges. Once operational, it will support applications in precision medicine, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and more, positioning Africa as a leader in translating metabolomics discoveries into real-world solutions.
We are currently seeking visionary partners, funders, and collaborators to join us in bringing this transformative project to life. Your support will help establish the foundation for a new era of African-led innovation—one that empowers local talent, attracts global collaborations, and delivers measurable impact for communities across the continent. Together, we can build not just a laboratory, but a lasting legacy for science in Africa.
